Prof.Zengwei Laiwas born in 1984 in Sanming, Fujian province, China, and received his BSc in chemistry from Hebei Normal University in 2008. He obtained his PhD from China Pharmaceutical University and Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC) in 2014 under the supervision of Prof. Hongbin Sun and Prof. Shu-Li You before doing postdoctoral studies with Prof. Jianwei Sun at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Research Interests
1. Developing novel drugs based on natural products: discovery of novel compounds from natural products for total synthesis and targeted structural optimization of novel molecules. In recent years, a number of lead compound with pharmaceutical properties have been discovered, for the treatment of major chronic diseases such as diabetes, chronic Obstructive lung disease and pulmonary hypertension.
2. Developing efficient new methods of organic synthesis to construct diverse drug-like molecular entities (heterocyclic compound), and then screening for their activities to aid in the discovery of drug leaders.
